CFTC’s Energy and Environmental Markets Advisory Committee Releases Agenda for Upcoming Public Meeting

Washington, DC—The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC or Commission) announced today the full agenda for the upcoming CFTC Energy and Environmental Markets Advisory Committee (EEMAC) public meeting. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at the Commission’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more information regarding the meeting, view CFTC Press Release 7198-15.

“For the first time in five years, the EEMAC will meet at least twice per year to hear from participants in the energy and environmental markets, many of which are newly regulated by the CFTC due to the passage of the Dodd-Frank Act,” said CFTC Commissioner J. Christopher Giancarlo, the sponsor of the EEMAC. “This EEMAC meeting will continue its discussion of the CFTC’s proposed position limits rulemaking to provide the Commission with a framework for a workable approach for delegating bona fide hedging and position accountability to the exchanges, as well as a sensible phase-in of whatever rulemaking is finally considered by the Commission. In addition, the EEMAC will seek advice from our members on whether the CFTC has struck the right balance in its regulation of long-used risk management contracts, such as trade options and forward contracts with embedded volumetric optionality, which are critically important to utilities, energy producers and manufacturers,” Giancarlo added.
