CFTC REPORTS ALL U.S. FUTURES EXCHANGES SCHEDULED TO OPEN TODAY HAVE DONE SO AND ARE OPERATING NORMALLY

WASHINGTON -- The Commodity Futures Trading Commission reports that all U.S. futures exchanges which planned to open this morning have successfully done so and are operating normally. The electronic systems of both the Chicago Board of Trade (Project A) and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (Globex) opened yesterday evening and have operated normally without interruption. The New York Mercantile Exchange is scheduled to open this evening for electronic trading and tomorrow for pit trading.

The Commission will continue to monitor closely the Y2K status of the U.S. futures markets throughout today and tomorrow. Toward that end, the Commission will continue to receive regular reports from exchanges, clearing houses, and the National Futures Association concerning member firms, and otherwise will be in contact with all segments of the futures industry.
