CFTC NAMES DAVID D. SPEARS ACTING CHAIRMAN

 Washington -- The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today announced that by seriatim action it has elected Commissioner David D. Spears to serve as acting chairman of the CFTC, effective immediately. Spears was nominated by President Clinton on May 3, 1996, and confirmed by the Senate on August 2, 1996, to a term expiring April 15, 2000.

Commissioner Spears succeeds Brooksley Born who had served as chairman since August 26, 1996, and who resigned from the Commission effective June 1, 1999.
