FUTURES & OPTIONS FOR KIDS ANNOUNCES RECIPIENTS
OF ITS 2004 ANNUAL AWARDS

New York, NY, February 26, 2004 – Futures and Options for Kids, a nonprofit organization created by the New York-area commodity industry, announced today the recipients of its two annual awards at its tenth Annual Dinner Dance held at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Lower Manhattan:

The 2004 Arthur Kaplan Award was given to the Honorable James E. Newsome, Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

The recipient of the 2004 Patrick J. O’Shea Community Service Award was Charles Nastro, Retired Managing Director of Lehman Brothers Futures Division.

“Jim Newsome and Charlie Nastro’s leadership has been extremely important to the futures industry, and Futures and Options for Kids is proud to now honor them both today,” said Fred Mascia, Chairman of Futures and Options for Kids. “Let’s also remember the other reason we are here today: to help children all over the tri-state area who so desperately need our assistance. Please remember to continue with your generous support.”

Futures and Options for Kids holds the annual event as a means to raise funds, as well as an opportunity to honor individuals in the futures industry who have made significant contributions.

The Arthur Kaplan award is given to an individual in the futures industry who exemplifies outstanding dedication to the needs of children. Arthur Kaplan was a member of the New York Mercantile Exchange and the Commodities Exchange, Inc. His commitment to the needs of children grew with his leadership as Chairman of the CEC Children's Fund, to which he was appointed in September 1986. During his tenure as Chairman, Mr. Kaplan created an awareness among the New York futures community about the plight of less fortunate children, and it was his belief that in sharing in the wealth of the futures industry, "the kids" (as he affectionately referred to them) could be helped. His concern and compassion prevailed until his untimely passing in November 1993.

The Patrick J. O’Shea Community Service Award is given to those in the futures industry who exhibit exceptional awareness and activity in promoting public service to those in the futures industry. The award was named after Mr. Patrick J. O’Shea, a commodities broker who worked for Carr Futures and who was a member of various exchange boards, including the Board of Futures and Options for Kids. Pat’s untimely death occurred during the September 11th terrorist attacks and he will be missed by all.

Futures and Options for Kids is a philanthropic organization whose mission is to raise funds for distribution to agencies committed to improving the lives of children in need in the areas of health, education & welfare. Futures and Options for Kids, formerly know as the CEC Children’s Fund, was founded in 1980 by several inspiring members of the New York Commodities Exchange. Over $9 million has been raised and distributed to hundreds of organizations throughout the tri-state area and Chicago.
