CFTC's Office of External Affairs Hosts Academic Visitors from the National Defense University's Industrial College of the Armed Forces MS Degree Program in National Resource Strategy
The CFTC's Office of External Affairs (OEA) hosted an academic visit of the National Defense University's (NDU) Industrial College of the Armed Forces (ICAF) Financial Services/Industrial Study Seminar group to the Commission on February 20, 2004. The NDU-ICAF Seminar group is comprised of senior-level members of the federal government completing the ICAF's Master of Science Degree in National Resource Strategy. The National Defense University was established in 1924 in the aftermath of World War I and is the premier center for joint professional military education (for more information, see http://www.ndu.edu).
Participating in the CFTC briefing session were: Dennis Holden, of the Office of External Affairs, who provided an overview of the Commission's regulatory activities and mandate; Jacqueline H. Mesa, Assistant Chief Counsel, Division of Enforcement, discussed the Commission's enforcement activities; Lawrence Patent, Deputy Director of the Compliance and Registration Section, Division of Clearing and Intermediary Oversight, provided an overview of clearing and intermediary regulatory oversight; John Fenton, Director of Market Surveillance, Division of Market Oversight, provided an overview of the Commission's market surveillance program; and Douglass Leslie, Office of External Affairs Senior Counsel, discussed Congressional and inter-agency cooperation.
As part of the Commission's educational and visitors program, the Commission's Office of External Affairs conducts briefing sessions for academic representatives, financial market executives and professionals, Congressional staff members, domestic and foreign representatives of the media, and producer and user groups to acquaint them with the Commission's regulatory mandate and activities.
