The CFTC's Office of International Affairs Hosts a Delegation of Government Officials from Russia

On August 5, the CFTC's Office of International Affairs (OIA) hosted a briefing session for a delegation of 10 Russian government officials. The Russian delegation came to the CFTC to study the structure of the Commission and U.S. futures laws and regulations. The delegation included representatives from the State Duma, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Anti-Monopoly Policies, and the Central Bank.

CFTC Chairman James E. Newsome provided welcoming remarks and an overview of the Commission’s regulatory structure to the delegation during the morning session. The following Senior CFTC staff provided overviews of their respective areas of responsibility and answered questions: Andrea Corcoran, Director, Office of International Affairs; Jane Thorpe, Director, Division of Clearing and Intermediary Oversight; James Overdahl, Chief Economist, Office of the Chief Economist; Michael Gorham, Director, Division of Market Oversight; and Daniel Nathan, Chief, Cooperative Enforcement, Division of Enforcement.

The Commission’s Office of International Affairs, in addition to providing information to foreign regulatory delegations, provides technical assistance to foreign regulators through a week-long seminar held each fall.
