Office of Public Affairs (OPA)

The Office of Public Affairs (OPA) is responsible for advancing the CFTC’s mission through professional internal and external communications. The office supports the CFTC’s public events, including open meetings of the Commission as well as annual conferences and symposiums. OPA is also responsible for building and maintaining the agency’s image and brand.

About the Office

OPA is divided into two branches: Media Relations and Digital Engagement. The Media Relations Branch responds to inquiries from reporters, issues press releases, and proactively engages with the public directly or through the news media, among other functions. The Digital Engagement Branch operates and maintains the CFTC’s web and social media platforms—including CFTC.gov and Whistleblower.gov—and is responsible for the creation and dissemination of digital content. The office’s director serves as the agency’s Chief Communications Officer (CCO) and is the principal advisor to the Chairman regarding internal and external communications and brand strategy.
