Global Markets Advisory Committee Meeting May 14, 1998
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission's Global Markets Advisory Committee (GMAC), Chaired by Commissioner Barbara P. Holum, will hold its first meeting on Thursday, May 14, 1998, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Commission's Washington, D.C. headquarters, at Three Lafayette Centre, 1155 21st Street, N.W., in the first floor hearing room (Room 1000).
The GMAC was created by the Commission for the purpose of obtaining input on international market issues that affect the integrity and competitiveness of U.S. markets and U.S. firms engaged in global business. The membership of the GMAC consists of 30 individuals representing U.S. futures exchanges, regulators and self-regulators, financial intermediaries, market users and traders.
The Committee is interested in hearing from GMAC members on issues affecting their ability to conduct global business. The agenda for the May 14, 1998 meeting includes a discussion of the following topics:
- Highlights of the CFTC's recent international initiatives and activities;
- Problems encountered during the recent volatility in the various Asian markets;
- Impediments to conducting business abroad; and
- Placement of U.S. exchange terminals abroad and foreign exchange terminals in the U.S.
