Meeting to address refining the MRAC’s agenda and topics of discussion on a forward-looking basis; developments in the digital asset markets and the unique risks of such markets; investor and customer protection in markets with increasing retail participation; and the importance of climate-related market risk and market structure developments. In addition, the MRAC will address procedural matters, including possible votes on establishing new or re-establishing currently inactive subcommittees and a discussion of issues that should be addressed by MRAC’s subcommittees. | CFTC’s Energy and Environmental Markets Advisory Committee to Meet September 20 in Oklahoma
Meeting to discuss the investment in physical energy infrastructure and the effect on price volatility in the commodities markets; and the role of the metals market as components in transitional energy sources and the potential impact on financial markets regulated by the CFTC. The EEMAC will also discuss and vote on the formation of subcommittees to provide reports on certain issues related to the two topics discussed during the meeting. | The Global Markets Advisory Committee Will Meet on October 25
Meeting to hear presentations and provide dialogue on matters related to the U.S. Treasury market which, given market interconnections, is vitally important to the proper functioning of the derivatives markets overseen by the CFTC. In that regard, the GMAC will hear presentations regarding the recent stresses in the U.S. Treasury market and proposals for Treasury market reforms to mitigate against future stresses. The GMAC will also hear presentations related to the implementation of recent Dodd-Frank Act reforms, including issues related to (1) swap data reporting; (2) uncleared margin; and (3) swap dealer capital substituted compliance. | CFTC’s Energy and Environmental Markets Advisory Committee to Meet September 15
Meeting to discuss how the derivatives markets can facilitate the transition to a low-carbon economy, including the status of carbon reduction through cap-and-trade and other carbon trading market mechanisms. The discussion at the June 3rd meeting included a proposal to form an EEMAC subcommittee to provide a report to the EEMAC on guiding principles for the design of the derivatives and underlying cash markets for environmental products, such as carbon allowances and offsets, that are used to address greenhouse gas emissions. At this meeting, the EEMAC will further discuss this proposal and vote whether to recommend that the Commission approve the formation of a subcommittee. Full details, including agenda, here. | The Market Risk Advisory Committee to Meet on July 13
Meeting to discuss the MRAC will receive final reports from the CCP Risk and Governance Subcommittee and a status report from the Interest Rate Benchmark Reform Subcommittee. In addition, the MRAC will vote on a recommendation from the Interest Rate Benchmark Reform Subcommittee for a market best practice that prioritizes derivatives trading in the Secured Overnight Financing Rate (SOFR) for particular market segments, otherwise known as SOFR First.
