Commissioner Bart Chilton appointed to Chair CFTC’s Energy Markets Advisory Committee
Washington, DC – Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Acting Chairman Michael V. Dunn announced today the appointment of CFTC Commissioner Bart Chilton to serve as Chairman of the CFTC’s Energy Markets Advisory Committee (EMAC). Commissioner Chilton replaces Walter L. Lukken who has served as EMAC Chairman since it was established in February 2008.
The EMAC was established by the CFTC to provide a public forum to examine emerging issues related to the energy markets and the CFTC’s role in these markets under the Commodity Exchange Act. The EMAC’s members include representatives from a broad cross-section of the industry with knowledge of the energy markets, including exchanges, producers, market users, and consumers.
In announcing this appointment, Acting Chairman Dunn said:
“On behalf of my fellow Commissioners and myself, I wish to express my appreciation to Walt for his contribution to the Commission during his tenure as Chairman of the EMAC. I look forward to working with Bart as he assumes leadership of this committee. We continue to face questions about the role of speculation in driving energy prices and the regulation of futures contracts in carbon offsets. This advisory committee has a valuable role to play in increasing our understanding of these issues.”
