CFTC Hosts International Regulators to Discuss Futures Industry Issues
Boca Raton, Florida – Futures services regulators from Brazil, Canada (Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec), Ethiopia, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, Qatar, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, United Kingdom, and the United States will assemble today at an annual International Regulators Meeting hosted by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
The theme for this year’s meeting is: “Financial Regulatory Reform.”
Panelists, including senior officials from the CFTC, participating regulators, the European Commission, firms and exchanges will discuss:
- the regulation of OTC markets and participants,
- OTC cross-border regulatory issues,
- the impact of high frequency trading on markets, and
- creating a culture of compliance as a risk management tool.
In commenting on the meeting, CFTC Chairman Gary Gensler, said:
“The 2008 financial crisis was global in nature and requires a comprehensive, international response. I am pleased to host this forum where regulators can continue open dialogue about critical issues related to financial regulatory reform.”
