Sharon Bowen Sworn In as a Commissioner of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission

Washington, DC — Sharon Bowen was officially sworn in today, after being confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 3, to serve as a Commissioner of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the federal agency that oversees the commodity futures, options and swaps industry.

Ms. Bowen joins the CFTC from the New York office of Latham & Watkins LLP, where she was a partner since 1991. She was the Co-chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee, Co-chair of the Diversity Hiring Subcommittee and Co-founder and Head of Latham’s Women Enriching Business Task Force. Prior to this, she was an associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell. Ms. Bowen was also Vice Chair of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC) and became its Acting Chair in 2012.

Ms. Bowen was born in Chesapeake, Virginia. She received her B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia, MBA from the Kellogg School of Management and J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law. She lives with her husband in New York City.
