Commissioner Quintenz Names Kevin Webb New Chief of Staff
Washington, DC — U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Commissioner Brian Quintenz announced today that Kevin Webb will serve as his Chief of Staff. Webb most recently served as Special Counsel to CFTC Chairman J. Christopher Giancarlo.
“I am honored and thrilled to have Kevin join my office and lead our team,” said Commissioner Quintenz. “His deep experience enforcing the Commodity Exchange Act as well as his working knowledge of Congress and the Commission itself will serve my office, the markets, and the public well. He has already provided me a smooth and efficient transition into my new role, and I look forward to working together to fulfill the CFTC's goals and mission.”
Prior to joining the Chairman’s Office, Webb was a Senior Trial Attorney in the CFTC’s Division of Enforcement (DOE), where he served as lead counsel responsible for the investigation and prosecution of persons alleged to have violated the Commodity Exchange Act and CFTC Regulations. In his eight years with DOE, Webb successfully prosecuted every case that he pursued on behalf of the agency, including a $50 million Ponzi scheme that led to the criminal convictions of the perpetrators.
During the 114th U.S. Congress, Webb departed DOE for a detail with the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture, where he served as a special counsel on derivatives in support of Congress’ reauthorization and oversight of the CFTC. In addition to his efforts on CFTC reauthorization, Webb briefed Representatives and their staffs for hearings on the U.S. Cotton Futures Act, the CFTC’s proposed Regulation Automated Trading, the impact of capital and margin requirements on end-users, the G-20 swap data reporting goals, five years of Dodd-Frank Act regulations, the CFTC’s 2016 agenda, and the economic impact of exporting crude oil.
Before joining the CFTC, Webb was a Trial Attorney for the Environment and Natural Resources Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. Prior to his government service, he served as an Associate in the litigation departments of two Am Law 100 firms in Richmond, Va. and Washington, D.C.
Webb holds Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Juris Doctor degrees from Washington & Lee University.
