Opening Statement of Commissioner Sharon Y. Bowen before the CFTC Agricultural Advisory Committee Meeting

I'm happy to be here at this meeting of the Commission's Agricultural Advisory Committee. Farmers and ranchers have been at the very heart of our commodities market since its inception. We need to make sure that our rules and regulations continue to be responsive to their concerns. I look forward to learning more about the issues facing small farmers and ranchers at present and I hope my staff and I can be a resource to this community.

I also welcome the chance to discuss position limits, which is a key rule on the Commission’s docket. I support the effort to reopen the comment period for this rule and I look forward to hearing the views of stakeholders on how we can enhance this rule. That said, it has been over a year since we re-proposed this rule and it is incumbent upon us to release a final rule soon.
