CFTC Announces Appointment of Melissa Jurgens to Serve as Secretary of the Commission
Washington, DC – The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today announced the appointment of Melissa Jurgens to serve as the Secretary of the Commission. The Secretary will manage the decisional workload of the Commission as it continues to complete Dodd-Frank rulemaking and implementation, as well as ongoing enforcement and no action matters. Jurgens will also play a key role in the preservation and management of the Commission’s records.
“Melissa Jurgens brings a wealth of experience to the CFTC,” said Executive Director Anthony Thompson. “Her knowledge of the Sunshine Act and Administrative Procedures Act, as well as her ability to manage a large volume of decisional documents in an increasingly electronic environment will be invaluable to the Commission.”
Prior to her arrival at the CFTC Jurgens was Deputy Clerk of the Merit Systems Protection Board, where she led the transition to a fully electronic case file. Jurgens is a member of the New York bar. She received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and graduated cum laude from the University of Vermont.
