CFTC Names Michael V. Dunn Acting Chairman
Washington, D.C. – The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today announced that, in accordance with CFTC Rules, the members of the Commission have elected Commissioner Michael V. Dunn to serve as Acting Chairman effective 12:00 pm, Tuesday, January 20, 2009. Dunn will exercise the executive and administrative functions of the Commission until President Obama’s nominee, Gary S. Gensler, has been confirmed by the Senate.
Commissioner Dunn succeeds Walter Lukken who has served as Acting Chairman since June 27, 2007, and has announced his intention to resign as Acting Chairman effective January 20, 2009. Lukken will continue to serve the CFTC as a Commissioner.
In assuming the office of Acting Chairman, Dunn said: “I am indeed honored to be afforded this opportunity and I look forward to working closely with my good friends and colleagues, Commissioners Lukken, Chilton, and Sommers. I firmly believe that with their support and the continued excellent work of the Commission’s dedicated and professional staff, the Commission will continue to protect market participants and ensure the viability and integrity of U.S. futures markets.”
