Event: Advisory Committee Meetings
Agricultural Advisory Committee Meeting, July 19, 2000
The CFTC’s Agricultural Advisory Committee (AAC), chaired by Commissioner David D. Spears, will hold its 28th meeting on Wednesday, July 19, 2000, from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m., at the Commission’s Washington D.C. headquarters, Three Lafayette Centre, 1155 21st Street N.W., in the first floor hearing room. The meeting is open to the public.
The first section of the meeting will focus on the Commission’s Regulatory Reinvention Proposal, which the Commission staff will review. Representatives from the Chicago Board of Trade, Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Kansas City Board of Trade, Minneapolis Grain Exchange, and the New York Board of Trade will then update the committee on exchange issues, including how each exchange’s agricultural markets will be affected by the Regulatory Reinvention Proposal. These two presentations will be followed by a general discussion among the AAC members and the panelists.
The next agenda item is a legislative update. Staff members from the both the Senate Agriculture Committee and the House Agriculture Committee will brief the committee on their Committees’ respective versions of CFTC reauthorization legislation.
The last agenda item, entitled "Recent Innovations in Agricultural Risk Management and Marketing," is intended to help inform the committee members of relevant developments in new technology. Three internet corporations, CyberCrop.com, e-markets, and ICEcorp, will explain their electronic marketing systems for agricultural products.
The AAC was created by the CFTC to advise the Commission on agricultural issues. For further information about the AAC meeting, contact Jennifer Roe at (202) 418-5040.
