CFTC’s Energy and Environmental Markets Advisory Committee to Meet September 20 in Oklahoma
First EEMAC Meeting to be Held Outside Washington
September 20, 2022
Washington, D.C. — CFTC Commissioner Summer K. Mersinger, sponsor of the Energy and Environmental Markets Advisory Committee (EEMAC), today announced the EEMAC will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, September 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. (CDT) in Stillwater, Oklahoma on the campus of Oklahoma State University. This is the first EEMAC meeting to be held outside of Washington, D.C. Members of the public may also attend the meeting virtually.
Commissioner Mersinger also announced the meeting agenda. The EEMAC will discuss the following:
- Investment in physical energy infrastructure and the effect on price volatility in the commodities markets; and
- The role of the metals market as components in transitional energy sources and the potential impact on financial markets regulated by the CFTC.
The EEMAC will also discuss and vote on the formation of subcommittees to provide reports on certain issues related to the two topics discussed during the meeting.
“I am very excited to hold the first Energy and Environmental Markets Advisory Committee (EEMAC) meeting under my sponsorship and especially to make history by hosting the first EEMAC meeting outside of Washington, DC in the Sooner State,” said Commissioner Mersinger. “I am looking forward to discussions on the innerworkings of the physical energy market, the increased use of metals for energy production, and how energy security and transition risks are impacting CFTC regulated markets. Through these discussions, I hope EEMAC can help the CFTC pursue policies that promote reliable energy supplies and stable energy prices for all Americans.”
The meeting agenda may be updated to accommodate other EEMAC priorities that may arise prior to the meeting. For agenda updates, please visit EEMAC at cftc.gov.
The meeting is open to the public with seating on a first-come, first-served basis. Members of the public may also watch a live webcast or listen to the meeting via conference call using a domestic toll-free telephone or international toll or toll-free number to connect to a live, listen-only audio feed.
